Send-off gesture leads to sanction
Burger was found guilty of using a send-off gesture after dismissing LSG captain Rishabh Pant. The act was deemed to have violated Article 2.5 of the IPL Code of Conduct, which prohibits language or gestures that could provoke an aggressive reaction from an opponent.
The fast bowler admitted to the Level 1 offence and accepted the sanction imposed by the match referee. As per IPL regulations, Level 1 decisions are final and binding, with no provision for appeal.
Rajasthan Royals dominate the contest
Despite the disciplinary controversy, Rajasthan Royals produced a dominant all-round performance to secure a comprehensive 40-run victory.
Batting first, RR were restricted to 159, with Mohammed Shami striking twice in quick succession for LSG. Mohsin Khan and Prince Yadav also bowled tightly to keep the scoring under control.
However, RR’s innings was anchored by Ravindra Jadeja, who remained unbeaten on 43 and guided his side through early setbacks.
LSG collapse in the chase
Chasing 160, LSG never found momentum. The early dismissal of Pant triggered a collapse, and the side were bowled out for 119 in 18 overs. Only Mitchell Marsh offered resistance with a fighting half-century, but lacked support from the other end.
RR’s bowling attack, led by Jofra Archer and Burger, capitalised on the pressure and picked up crucial breakthroughs at regular intervals to seal the win.
Impact on the points table
The victory lifted Rajasthan Royals to second place on the points table, strengthening their playoff campaign. In contrast, Lucknow Super Giants slipped further, remaining in ninth place after another disappointing batting performance.
