A huge park in Leeds city centre that will form the centrepiece of an entirely new neighbourhood of almost 1,000 homes has been given an official name.
The area around The Tetley will be completely transformed in the coming years, with plans for a new hotel, shops, offices and around 850 residential properties given outline planning permission in December.
At the heart of the new community will be an enormous green space, which will be split into five separate sections across two hectares - and will include an outdoor theatre space.
The developers Vastint have today announced that the huge development will be called Aire Park.
It will all form part of the city-wide South Bank scheme, which aims to double the size of Leeds city centre by developing large swathes of land on the southern edge of the River Aire.
The South Bank regeneration project has been billed as the largest scheme of its kind in Europe and will eventually see around 8,000 homes built on an area of land the size of 350 football pitches. A vast number of shops, offices, restaurants and cafés are also in the pipeline.
