Name necklaces of the 90s are back thanks to Love Island’s Olivia Bowen

As a 90s baby with an 80s sister, I was brought up on inflatable chairs, Spice Girls songs and the Sega Megadrive. And in 2022, we’re seeing a huge rise in 90s and 00s fashion trends creep back onto the high street, including the much-loved slogan and nameplate necklaces.

Love Island star Olivia Bowen has been seen rocking the trend in her latest collection with jewellery brand Abbott Lyon.

Her ‘Love Yourself’ range sees a selection of personalised pieces, each representing empowering words and messages, like ‘strength’ and ‘confidence’.

The 28-year-old, who is currently pregnant with husband Alex Bowen’s baby, said: “This collection definitely came from the heart. I think it takes a while for a woman or a man to love yourself and learn to accept yourself. It’s all about self love and talking really positive to yourself.”

I couldn’t wait to hop on the now-vintage trend and try one of the nameplate necklaces from the collection. I went for the large Figaro old English name necklace in gold, which is 18k gold plated brass and costs £89.

I had mine personalised with my name, following in the footsteps of social media stars like Sammi Jefcoate, who also styles her name necklace as part of her daily getting ready videos. Even Kim Kardashian has been seen wearing a name necklace this week.

Shoppers can use up to 12 characters for the necklace, so even those with longer names should be able to spell theirs out in full.

The product took around two weeks to arrive due to being personalised, but was beautifully boxed in sustainable packaging.

It’s quite a chunky piece with a gothic font, and makes a real statement on its own. But I’ve seen Olivia Bowen layer her necklaces in so many Instagram posts, and the collection lends itself really well to doing just that.

Of course, you can layer the necklaces with other pieces from the Love Yourself range, with prices starting from £29, or wear it with other pieces in your jewellery collection. If you want to go full 90s baby, I heard Primark recently launched some Powerpuff Girl apparel and fun jewellery.

I love how the necklace really seems to just pull an outfit together and finish it all off, and I’m 100 per cent here for the 90s vibes.

You can shop the name necklace here , alongside other pieces from the Abbott Lyon collaboration with Olivia Bowen.
