A new nail salon has been approved in West Lothian despite objections from locals.
West Lothian Council granted planning permission in retrospect for the nail salon on July 13.
The premises at 7 Hopetoun Street in Bathgate was formally a woman’s clothing shop, Atica Boutique.
However, it appears the Five Star Nail Spa has been operating out of the premises since late 2018.
Ten locals objected to the proposal in the planning application for a nail salon in Bathgate.
The main reason for these objections were the fumes and smells coming from the chemicals used at Five Star Nail Spa.
When granting planning permission West Lothian Council stipulated that the nail salon must have adequate ventilation units.
The head of planning, Craig McCorriston, said: “There are no road safety issues as a result of the proposal and no material considerations to indicate that the application should not be granted.”
He added: “Within 1 month of the date of this permission, all ventilation and extraction including air compressor and filter unit shown on the approved plans shall be installed and shall operate at all times the premises are in use.
“In addition, the extractor vent on the front elevation shall operate for a minimum of 30 minutes each day following closing of the premises. “Thereafter the ventilation and extraction including the filtration and compressor shall be implemented in accordance with the details as approved.”
