N'Golo Kante fit, Hakim Ziyech involved and five things we learned from Chelsea training

Chelsea take on Southampton tomorrow afternoon when the Premier League returns after the international break.

Frank Lampard will not have a lot of time to work with his squad, with some of the players yet to return to training.

However, the Blues have been back at Cobham and the Blues boss has been working with the rest of the squad.

But what did we notice from Chelsea’s training session ahead of the match.

N’Golo Kante involved

There has been some doubts over whether N’Golo Kante would be fit enough to feature this weekend after picking up a muscle injury on international duty.

The 29-year-old really struggles with injuries last season and Lampard is hoping that won’t be the same in this campaign.

There was a boost for the Blues boss with Kante involved in training and taking part in the session.

Lampard will give full details over whether the Frenchman will be able to play against the Saints.

Hakim Ziyech in training

Hakim Ziyech is yet to make his competitive debut for Chelsea, having picked up a knee injury in the pre-season draw with Brighton.

The 27-year-old played some minutes for Morocco in the international break before returning back to the Blues to get ready for the game.

Ziyech is expected to feature in some capacity at the weekend, with it likely that he will come off the bench.

Ben Chilwell takes part

Another injury doubt has been Ben Chilwell, who withdrew from England duty after a flare-up of the foot injury that he has carried.

However, the left-back has been back in training and will hopefully be available for the game against the Saints.

If the 23-year-old is not able to make the game with the issue, then it’s likely that Cesar Azpilicueta will start in his position, with Reece James on the right.

Callum Hudson-Odoi’s bandage

Callum Hudson-Odoi will be hoping to get another Premier League start this weekend, just like he did in the 4-0 rout of Crystal Palace.

The 19-year-old made a decent impression in the game, but with the return of Christian Pulisic and Ziyech, his place is under some threat.

Hudson-Odoi was on international duty with England’s U21s, and now he is sporting a large bandage around his head after suffering a cut during training.

It’s nothing to worry about, however, and he will still be fine to play.

Thiago Silva is back

It would be fair to think that Thiago Silva might be struggling a bit, having played Peru in midweek and then flown all the back from South America.

The 36-year-old showed against Palace just how important he is going to be to the Blues with an excellent display at the back.

The Brazilian is ready to give everything to the club and he was back in training and preparing for the weekend.
