HYDERABAD: With political grapevine indicating an increasing anti-incumbency against the ruling TRS, former chief minister and Telugu Desam Party (TDP) chief N Chandrababu Naidu is eyeing the possibility of reviving the TDP in Telangana.
Though the TDP, which is considered as an ‘Andhra party’ by a majority of the people in Telangana, has lost its connection with the voters in the new state, Naidu is unwilling to cede the ground in Telangana.
Party leaders say that with parties like BSP and AAP trying to find a foothold in Telugu land, it’s worth giving a try to revive TDP in Telangana. “TDP has decided to constitute a committee of senior leaders to work out an action plan to re-establish the connection with the people in Telangana. After all, TDP was founded to protect the self-respect and pride of the Telugu people,” a senior Telangana TDP leader said.
Naidu held a review meeting at NTR Bhavan in Jubilee Hills and asked the party leaders to launch a digital membership drive. Naidu will allocate two days in a month for meetings with Telangana leaders in Hyderabad and other districts.
Naidu will also appoint committees from village to state level to take up agitations on public issues. Two more committees would be constituted soon to study the problems being faced by the people in Telangana.
TDP Telangana president B Narsimhulu, politburo member Ravula Chandrasekhar Reddy among others attended the review meeting with Naidu on Friday. Naidu plans to strengthen the party by reaching out to voters at their doorstep, enrolling as many voters as possible in TDP and a mini mahanadu in Hyderabad in May.
