Mystery as car found abandoned in middle of roundabout

Locals in one area of Merseyside were left perplexed after a car was found abandoned on a roundabout.

Police received reports yesterday at 6:40am that a Honda Civic had been left in the middle of Fairways roundabout in Southport on Marine Drive. It seems the car had gone straight across the road bypassing the roundabout and up onto the bank.

A photograph was snapped by local radio station Sandgrounder Radio. The photograph, which was posted to their Facebook page, shows the vehicle up on the bank with the right-hand side of the car badly damaged and what appears to be the bumper lying next to the car.

The car was found abandoned by police with nobody found at the scene. A clean-up operation was undertaken by the police and they are now investigating the issue.

A spokesperson for Merseyside Police said: "We received a report yesterday morning at 6:40am on Sunday, May 29 of a car abandoned on the Fairway on Marine Drive in Southport.

"That a car had gone across the road and straight into the roundabout and there was nobody in the car at the time. A clean-up operation was in place to clean up any debris off the road."

The police do not know at this time if the car was stolen.
