Police are investigating after discovering a body inside a rental property that belongs to Conan Harris, husband of U.S. Representative Ayanna Pressley.
Officers were called to the home on Malta Street in Boston’s Mattapan neighborhood Saturday afternoon. Upon arriving, police found a person deceased.
The two-story, seven-bedroom home is owned by Harris as a rental property and is currently for sale. Pressley and Harris do not live there and never have, a person familiar with the matter told The Independent.
The deceased individual has not been identified. Police are conducting a death investigation, a Boston Police Department spokesperson said.
"The Congresswoman extends her deepest condolences to the impacted family,” Pressley’s office said in a statement.
Police received a call around 1:52 p.m. Saturday that a person had been shot at the home, according to a police report shared with The Independent.
Upon arrival, officers found the victim, already deceased, in the rear bedroom.
The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner determined the cause of death was a single gunshot wound.
The realtor for the property told WCVB in a phone interview that the people living in the rental had been there for a while but did not specify exactly how long.
No further information was available due to an ongoing investigation.
Pressley, who was elected to Congress in 2019, represents Massachusetts’ 7th congressional district, which encompasses some Boston neighborhoods.
She is a member of “The Squad,” a group of progressive Democratic women in the House. Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Ilhan Omar and Rashida Tlaib are also members of the group.
