Myles Garrett is one of the favorites to win the 2019 NFL Defensive Player of the Year award. The Cleveland Browns EDGE knows what winning such a prestigious honor would mean for his career legacy.
“That’s the only way to stamp your name in the history books,” Garrett said Thursday. “To be the best defensive player, you’ve got to win DPOY. That’s always a goal but if I don’t win that, they’ll talk about being a team player and taking my team to Super Bowls.”
No Browns player has ever won the NFL Defensive Player of the Year award. The honor typically goes to an impact player on a playoff team, so if Garrett is indeed a leading candidate, it’s a good sign for the Browns as a team overall, too.
