SURAT THANI: A Thai teacher rewarded a Myanmar worker 2,000 baht for returning a waist bag containing valuables worth altogether about 100,000 baht he had lost overnight.

Nai, the Myanmar man aged 38, reached the Don Sak police station in Don Sak district Saturday to give the rain-soaked waist bag he had found. The employee of Pho Lohakan shop in tambon Don Sak wanted local police to find its owner as he and his employer saw 6,190 baht in cash and a five-baht-weight gold bracelet in it.

Later, teacher Jirasak Suwannachote, 56, of Don Sak, arrived at the same police station to report his lost bag. That was when he learned the bag had been found and taken there. The teacher gave 2,000 baht to the migrant worker to show his gratitude.

Mr Jirasak said that on Friday night he parked his car behind Pho Lohakan shop. On Saturday morning he was shocked to learn he had lost the bag. He thought the bag fell from his waist while he was running to his car in the rain.

Mr Jirasak said he felt grateful to the Myanmar man for returning the valuables.
