When it comes to difficult neighbours, one of the most common complaints is noise disturbance from next door - whether it's dogs barking loudly or music blaring late at night. Usually you can solve the issue by confronting your neighbour, but sometimes that can make things even worse.
One disgruntled homeowner has claimed that their upstairs neighbour is 'driving them insane' thanks to their tumble drying habits - leaving loud noise and vibrations running for hours on end, day and night. Taking to Reddit to moan about their neighbour, the angry complainant, who remains anonymous, wrote: "So, my upstairs neighbor [sic] has a really loud drying machine and the noise it makes really vibrates throughout my roof and it's incredibly distracting.

"It feels like an engine is running and the sound emanates like waves (up and down), which is driving me insane.
"I guess I would be ok with this if it ran for a few hours a few days per week. However, this mf [mother f*****r runs every single day for hours on end".
After getting tired of the noise, they decided to speak to their neighbour about the situation, and everything seem to go smoothly until changes to their drying routine actually made things worse.
"A couple of weeks ago, I decided to knock on their door (they are just a couple in their 40s) and ask if they could just not turn it on at night, because I couldn't sleep," the Reddit posted explained. "They were very nice about it and ever since we talked, they haven't turned it on past 8pm.
"I thought this would make life a little better, but now (because they don't dry their clothes at night), they're running it ALL DAY. I wake up to the sound of it in the morning and have to WFH with this noise for more that 10 hours a day, every single day."
Baffled by the constant use of the appliance, the homeowner concluded: "This does not seem like a normal behavior [sic]. I live with 2 other people and we never use the washing/drying machine everyday, let alone have it run for the whole day, 7 days a week.
"Am I being unreasonable or is this very abnormal?"
People flocked to the comments section on the post to throw in their two cents on the matter, with some offering theories on why the dryer noise could be running all day.
One person mused: "Is it just the dryer running? It’s possible that the vents are clogged so it’s not working well. Might just need maintenance?"
Another person sided with the neighbour, adding: "If you live in an environment where it's warm all year I'm wondering if they're running the dryer at a lower heat setting to keep their home from becoming too hot. If they're doing this, it would take longer for their laundry to become fully dry.
"I have no idea how you're charged for electricity but for us the rates are based on the time of day, with the daytime being the most expensive by far. If that's the case then their willingness to not use the dryer at night when it would probably be cheaper for them is even nicer than it might seem".
A third person suggested another more unusual theory, writing: "It sounds as though they’re running a laundry service out of their home".
