'My neighbour makes the loudest, most annoying noises imaginable - it has to stop'

A woman is furious with her neighbour, who she claims makes the "loudest, most annoying noises" you could imagine in the mornings – and she's considering telling him it has to stop.

It all came to a head this morning, on the bank holiday Monday, when her daughter was playing on the patio, just before the mum was about to put her baby down for a nap.

Taking to the popular forum Mumsnet, the woman explained at 9.20am: "For the last 30 minutes our neighbour has been cutting flags [flagstones/patio slabs] on and off.

"It's the loudest, most annoying noise I can imagine at this time on a Monday morning. We do have the windows open as it's a lovely morning, but even closed we can hear it."

The woman explained that her husband is "cross too but thinks we shouldn't say anything".

She added: "He's worried we will start an ongoing argument as a few weeks back, he was doing some more flag cutting at 8pm and woke both my kids up! I absolutely went out and told him to stop that time.

"Would I be unreasonable to ask neighbour to stop now? I know we are up anyway with the kids, but it's early right?"

The woman added that her neighbours had been "extensively renovating for 12 months", and when asked to describe the noise, the mum said: "Think really loud drilling but more high pitched".

Most fellow parents on the forum believed it would be unreasonable to ask the neighbour to stop, even if it is a bank holiday.

One person said: "Not an unreasonable time at all, even if it was a weekend or bank holiday."

Another commented: "After 9am [is] really annoying but a reasonable hour. Maybe a nap in the pram away from the noise. Yes, it's frustrating but hopefully with a big push today you'll get peace later this evening?"

A third added: "It's a reasonable time although I agree the noise will be bad. But if they crack on now and get it done at least it will be finished."

After reading all the comments, the mum replied: "Gutted to read the consensus is that I'm being unreasonable - wasn't expecting that! But fair enough - I am going to take this as a warning to wind my neck in and keep quiet! Hope everyone's morning is more peaceful than ours."
