A grandmother has been slammed for 'selfishly' refusing to call her grandson by his name as she hates the moniker. Called Leon, the youngster's name is loved by his parents who spent a long time deliberating their choice.
Unfortunately, it just so happens to be the same name as one of the gran's in-laws who she hates - and now she's refusing to use it.
Sharing her upset in a post to Reddit, the baby's mum explained she can't understand the fuss her own mum is making.
"In my opinion that's a stupid reason considering I've never heard anything about this person before now," the parent wrote.
However, her mum is steadfast in her choice, as she says one cousin-in-law, also named Leon, was 'horrible to the family'.
As such, the pair have found themselves at an impasse. The grandma will only call her grandson by his nickname, but the mum believes she's being unreasonable, and now an argument has erupted.
"Today I told her to 'get over it' when she proposed another 'nickname' for him and now she's really upset with me because she thinks she needs a say in her grandchild's name," said the mum.
However, commenters had little sympathy for the grandmother after their heard her daughter's side of the story.
"Your mother is way out of line! Don't let her choose what to call your baby. It's ridiculous to object to a name she has a negative association with - soon the name of her grandson will have nothing but good vibes," read one reply.
Another agreed: "What a selfish mother you have."
Meanwhile, someone else sided with the mum and said 'I get why you'd be annoyed', but pointed out there could be a reason why the daughter's never heard of the family member.
"It's possible that he was so awful that no one associated with him anymore, and that's why your mom wants nothing to do with that name," they suggested.
