My mom had a Kenwood stand mixer but its latest release would blow her mind — it’s as futuristic as it gets

Kenwood Cooking Chef.

Kenwood, the iconic British baking and food prep brand, is celebrating 75 years of culinary excellence with the launch of its most advanced stand mixer yet, the Kenwood Cooking Chef.

The trusted brand is taking a step into the future combining a stand mixer, with a traditional mixing arm, with an induction cooker. My first thought. Is this even possible?

My mind is blown away with the tech that’s included in Kenwood’s Cooking Chef, and I can't help but think my mom would struggle to comprehend it, too. She taught me how to use her trusted Kenwood Chef stand mixer when I was a child, and that's what started my baking journey.

While it still delivers on the stand mixer front, Kenwood’s Cooking Chef offers so much more. The caveat being you'll have to pay out for the privilege. The newly released Kenwood Cooking Chef is currently available for £1,249 direct from Kenwood, and also at Harrods in London, which retailed the very first Kenwood Chef 75 years ago. At present, the Kenwood Cooking Chef is only available in the U.K. but I've contacted Kenwood about U.S. availability and will update this article when I receive a response.

So, what do you get for the money? The premium end stand mixer combines induction cooking, built-in Easy Weigh scales, a 5-inch smart touchscreen, 60 preloaded recipes, and 31 SimpleTouch presets.

Induction cooking in a stand mixer — is this for real?

Out of all of the features, I’m particularly intrigued by the induction cooking, which can apparently master anything from tempered chocolate to sizzling fries between 20°C-200°C (68°F-392°F).

And to help you get everything right, users are guided step-by-step through the built-in screen while the Cooking Chef automatically follows the recipe and cooks at exactly the right temperature at each stage. It’s a real smart cookie.

The smart touchscreen gives you instant access to 60 onboard recipes, step-by-step guidance, and advanced cooking controls, making even the trickiest recipes easier to perfect. Imagine whipping up the perfect hollandaise every time?

The appliance can be paired with the Kenwood & Me app, allowing you to search by meal type, ingredient or dietary requirement, accessing hundreds of tried and tested recipes from Kenwood.

To make life that little easier, it also comes preloaded with 60 of Kenwood’s most-loved recipes from around the world.

Precision baking

“The Cooking Chef combines smart technology with precision temperature control to guarantee delicious results every time. It’s a tool that grows with the cook, empowering both beginners and seasoned foodies to expand their culinary repertoire,” according to Kenwood.

Part of this precision includes the built-in EasyWeigh scales that measure ingredients directly in the bowl, eliminating the need for an additional gadget on your countertop. Although I don’t think it would be feasible to get rid of your kitchen scales completely, as I can’t imagine weighing rice or pasta in a stand mixer!

You can also keep an eye on what’s happening inside the bowl with the BowlBright light, and it will flash once the recipe stage or meal is ready.

Optional attachments

What’s more, to expand the Food Chef’s functionality, there are over 25 optional attachments to choose from, so you can chop, grate, spiralize, juice, or mince without the need for another gadget.

It goes without saying I'll be very excited to get this into the Tom's Guide testing kitchen to find out how it matches up against the rest of the best stand mixers. And, of course, I'll be hoping for a U.S. release in the near future.
