Musical celebrates Lhong 1919's first anniversary

To celebrate Lhong 1919's first anniversary, Takonkiet Viravan directs Lod Lai Mangkorn: The Epic Musical At Lhong 1919, an exclusive outdoor-multimedia theatrical performance at Wanglee House from Nov 16-25.

Lod Lai Mangkorn (Through The Dragon's Stripes) is the rags-to-riches story of a Chinese immigrant named Liang who sails on a junk boat from Shantou, China, to Thailand. Liang starts out working as a labourer at a rice mill before rising the ranks to become a fabric tycoon.

The story is an adaptation of the novel by the late national artist Prabhassorn Sevikul. With a gripping plot that focuses on business rivalries and ethics, the story has proved enduringly popular and has been adapted for the stage and television several times.

The show takes place at Wanglee House, marking the first time the 137-year-old property has been open to the public. The historical setting, with its port, rice mill and old Chinese wooden house, will transport audiences back in time. It is a fitting venue, given that the port was what inspired the author to write the original novel.

Award-winning actor Chartayodom "Chai" Hiranyasthiti plays Liang. Chai is celebrated for his range as an actor, from comedic to dramatic roles. Through The Dragon's Stripes is his third musical. He stars alongside actress Sinjai "Nok" Plengpanich and singers Nat Thewphaingam and Phrimapa "Nok" Kornrorajanachawin.

This is a one-time-only event to be staged over six days (Nov 16-25) and will never be performed again.
