A museum dedicated to Boston Celtics legend Larry Bird has begun collecting items, with the intention to open next year, according to the Associated Press.
The museum will be located in the Terre Haute Convention Center in Terre Haute, Indiana, which is set to finish construction in March 2022. It will house memorabilia from Bird’s days with the Celtics, Indiana State and the US Olympic team, according to the AP. “As other items are collected, they can be housed in one location,” memorabilia consultant Shelly Keen said. “It’s just going to make things move a little more swiftly than what it was before.”
Bird spent 13 seasons in the NBA, all with the Celtics, and earned a spot on the All-Star team in all but one of those seasons. He was a three-time champion, three-time MVP, 10-time All-NBA, three-time All-Defensive player. He was inducted into the NBA Hall of Fame in 1998.
