A man who led police on a 24-hour manhunt after stabbing his ex-partner and her autistic son to death has been found guilty of murder.
Daniel Boulton, 30, killed Bethany Vincent and her son Darren Henson, nine, at their home in Louth, Lincolnshire, in May last year.
Boulton carried out the murders after walking 28 miles from his hostel in Alexandra Road, Skegness, LincolnshireLive reports.
Lincoln Crown Court how a nine-month-old child was found crawling around the property when the emergency services arrived at the scene.
The following day Boulton assaulted off-duty officer PC Stephen Dennis who tried to detain him while walking his dog near Hubbards Hill.
He then attempted to get in a farm manager Greta Roberts' car at Hallington House Farm, near Louth but she locked the doors and drove off, the court heard.
Jurors heard Boulton encouraged armed officers who arrived at the scene to shoot him but he was tasered and held on the ground.
A silver kitchen knife was taken from him, and he was also found to have two skateboard-type pads on his knees.
Boulton was prevented from seeing Ms Vincent by a restraining order after a previous incident in which he "threw her around the house" but had continued to contact her and sent more than 900 messages on the weekend before the stabbings, jurors were told.
The murderer claimed he lost control and stabbed his ex-partner after she laughed at him when he threatened to kill himself.
Boulton told the defence psychiatrist Dr Pablo Vandenabeele: "I guess I wanted to threaten her, I wanted to Romeo and Juliet her, I probably just wanted to kill myself.
"It was like I wasn't there, auto-pilot did the job for me.
Boulton told Dr Vandenabeele he did not know how many times he stabbed Ms Vincent.
He said: "It was like she went into the knife."
Boulton denied murder but a jury saw through his defence and found him guilty.
Loud cries of "yes" rang out from the public gallery as the verdicts were read out.
Trial judge Mr Justice Pepperall told Boulton: "You have been convicted of the brutal murders of Bethany Vincent and her nine-year-old son.
"There is only one sentence in law I can pass. That will be a sentence of life imprisonment on both counts."
