Murder suspect dies before facing trial for killing of big-hearted, bubbly and loving mum

A murder suspect accused of killing a mum has died before facing trial.

Philip Andrews, 51, was accused of killing Lana Owen, 46, in December - and was due to face a crown court trial.

But he died from a terminal illness while in custody - before Lana's family were able to get justice.

Lana was killed after allegedly being attacked in Trealaw, Tonypandy, with Andrews arrested on suspicion of her murder.

It's understood Andrews and Lana had previously lived at the same address in the former mining village.

Police said they were not looking for anyone else in connection with her death. The case was discontinued at Cardiff Crown Court today.

Dad-of-eight named as man whose body was found in Pen y Fan Pond

Speaking at the time, Lana's family said: "We as a family are devastated by the tragic loss of our mother Lana, she got herself through her lowest and got taken from us at her best. She was a big-hearted woman full of energy and very bubbly.

"She'd talk to anyone and everyone and do anything for anyone, she was a loving mother, sister, auntie, niece, sister-in-law and a great friend she will be missed by all."

An inquest is expected to be held into Lana's death.

Andrews was due to appear at Cardiff Crown Court on Tuesday, but police confirmed he had recently died.

A spokesman for South Wales Police said the force is continuing to support her family.
