Three-time Oscar nominee Dame Angela Lansbury has died aged 96.

The London-born actress, known for her roles as Jessica Fletcher in US crime series Murder, She Wrote, Miss Price in Bedknobs and Broomsticks, and Mrs Pots in Disney's 1991 Beauty and the Beast, passed away "peacefully" at her home in Los Angles today, October 11.

According to a family statement, she died in her sleep just five days before her 97th birthday. The Hollywood starlet moved to the United States in 1940, aged 15, to escape the Blitz, studying acting in New York before moving to Hollywood.
