Murder probe launched as man dies after sickening golf club street ambush

A murder investigation has been launched after the death of a man who was attacked with a golf club during a daylight street ambush.

The victim, 49, was found with serious leg and arm injuries after the sickening assault in Norris Green at 3.40pm on Tuesday, June 18.

At the time Merseyside Police said the man was subjected to the horrific beating as he was walking along Wapshare Road.

Police said a man appeared and, using what appeared to be a golf club, rained down blows on his victim.

He was taken to hospital for what police termed "serious leg and arm injuries".

And today police confirmed a murder investigation was underway after confirming the victim was found dead at a house in Larkhill Lane, Clubmoor on September 24.

Police said the man "had recently received medical attention involving surgery" following the attack.

At the time they said a suspect was challenged by a member of the public and ran off down a cut-through onto Kilrea Close, possibly making off down the Loop Line after the attack, described by detectives as an "appalling act of sustained violence".
