Murder police find body in search for man missing for more than six weeks

PA Wire

A body has been found in the search for a 36-year-old man believed to have been murdered after going missing more than six weeks ago.

Kiran Pun, from Amesbury, Wiltshire, was last seen getting off the number one bus at Aldershot railway station in Hampshire, after travelling there from Farnborough, at 7.30pm on December 1.

Five men aged 17 to 36 have been arrested and bailed as part of a police investigation.

Officers discovered a body in shrubbery at Brickfields Country Park, Aldershot, at about 3pm on Sunday and believe it belongs to Mr Pun.

Hampshire Police said: “While formal identification has not yet been completed, we do believe this to be Kiran, 36, and his family have been informed.

“They continue to be supported by specialist officers as we continue our investigation.”

Detective Chief Inspector Adam Edwards, the force’s head of major crime, added: “We are working hard now to understand what has happened to Kiran and to be able to provide answers to his family at what is no doubt a very difficult time for them.

“We are keeping an open mind and will be making a number of enquiries in the coming days to formally identify him, with a post mortem due to take place tomorrow.

Any sightings of Kiran or any information, however small it may seem to you, could be vitally important to our enquiries
— Detective Chief Inspector Adam Edwards

“It is really important for us to now understand how and when Kiran came to be in Brickfields Country Park.

“If you have seen anything suspicious or that didn’t look right in the area, then please can you get in touch with us.

“Any sightings of Kiran or any information, however small it may seem to you, could be vitally important to our enquiries.

“If you aren’t able to come directly to us with any information, then you can contact Crimestoppers 100% anonymously.

“There will also be officers in the area conducting enquiries and going house to house, so if you do have any concerns or wish to tell us anything about this matter, then please do not hesitate to approach us.

“Please, can I urge anyone that can assist to come forward and help us provide Kiran’s family the answers they are seeking?”
