MUMBAI: A 34-year-old man from Borivali was duped of Rs 2.5 lakh by a cyberfraudster while trying to book a hotel online in Mahabaleshwar. An FIR has been registered.
On Thursday, the complainant while searching for hotels online dialed a number of a fraudster. The man introduced himself as Ashish Sharma, a hotel employee, and asked for his credit card details to charge Rs 1,000 advance. The complainant shared the same but didn't get payment confirmation.
When he told Sharma to cancel the booking and refund his money, the fraudster asked him to make digital transactions post which more money got debitted.
