MUMBAI: The Shivaji Nagar police in eastern suburbs have arrested three persons and are looking for one more who gang-raped a young woman while she was returning home from catering service at wee hours on Friday morning.
Police said two of the three arrested accused are minors and a team has left for Uttar Pradesh to arrest one more accused in the case. The accused have been booked under IPC sections of rape and sexual assault. While two of the minors were produced before the Justice Juvenile authority and another accused before the regular court and remanded to police custody.
Police said that incident is of Friday morning when the victim who works in a catering firm was returning home at around 4am and was near old BEST bus depot at Shivaji Nagar when the four accused caught her by surprise.
"As one of the accused knew the victim, he asked her as to where she was coming so late. He asked her to come along with him as he wanted to talk to her. As the victim went along, the accused took her to an empty house’s mezzanine floor and his friends followed him and they gang raped her", an officer said.
When she raised alarm for help, one of the accused throttled her mouth and and raped her turn by turn and fled away.
The traumatized victim immediately called police over the phone and lodged a complaint. A police team of women officers recorded her FIR and also identified the four accused who were from the same vicinity.
Senior inspector Arjun Rajane of Shivaji Nagar police said that they immediately formed around ten teams and sent them to different locations viz Mumbra, Vashi, Mumbai Central and Lokmanya Tilak railway station and managed to arrest three of them who were planning to take a long distance train to run away from the city.
