A mum who served in Afghanistan could be the first woman to join the SAS, according to reports.
The 28-year-old is currently training for the six month SAS selection course, the Daily Star Sunday states , but if she's successful she would be the first to join the elite military unit.
The unnamed woman has reportedly already undergone a tour of duty with the elite Special Reconnaissance Regiment, the Star adds.
Then Defence Secretary Gavin Williamson announced a change in the rules last year that will allow women to join units like the previously all-male SAS.
He said all combat roles would become available to women so candidates would be judged on merit, not gender.
Mr Williamson, who has since been sacked by Theresa May over alleged leaks, told the BBC at the time: "We very much expect women to be joining the SAS and the Special Boat Service.
"The value that they'll bring, the impact they'll make will be phenomenal and all the services are looking forward to welcoming them."
The Star states that less than 10 per cent of candidates make it through the SAS tests, which include 20 hour marches and interrogations.
One the female SAS candidate, a source told the paper: “She has already proved her worth in Afghanistan on countless covert operations.
“She is super-fit and highly professional – very intelligent and a real team player. She has already worked alongside the SAS, so many of the guys know her and trust her.
“For them, providing she passes selection, it will be no big deal. If you are good enough, then you are good enough.”
