Mum warned against baby name with sweet meaning as daughter 'might get bullied'

Thinking of a name for your soon-to-be born child can be a truly exciting moment for any parent as you both go back and forward on possible options for your little one.

But one woman has come under fire from her husband and other parents after she considered naming her baby daughter after her late grandfather who passed away recently.

The grandad was called Alfie and after much research, the woman thought that the name 'Alpha' could be good for her daughter, but many others have said that this could result in her getting bullied and teased as she gets older.

Taking to Mumsnet, the woman explained that her grandad's passing devastated the entire family and she felt sure she wanted to name her kid after him. But after finding out they were going to have a daughter, this became a harder task.

In the post, the woman, who remained anonymous, explained: "My beloved grandfather Alfie passed and the entire family were devastated.

"About a month later we found out we were expecting our second child and I new right away that I wanted to name it after him.

"A few weeks ago we discovered that I am having a darling baby girl and after researching some names, I fell in love with the name Alpha."

She went onto explain that Alpha is a Greek name meaning new beginnings so felt it was a fitting name for her daughter but others have not been so sure.

"However my husband and a few other friends disagree and think that she will be bullied for this unconventional name and that I should consider something else" she explained.

"I want a name my husband and I can agree on but I can't think of any more fitting name than Alpha."

In response, others have suggested they start finding another name as one person wrote: "I wouldn't as it has other meanings to people which could make her life difficult."

While another stated: "There are too many possible jokes, from alpha personality types to the alpha course."
