Mum 'stressed beyond belief' as dream garden turns into 'absolute mess'

A furious mum said she was "stressed beyond belief" after her dreams of a new garden were shattered and replaced with "an absolute mess".

Hayley Barrow, 35, said she accepted "excuse after excuse" from a gardening company she hired to spruce up her yard. The mum-of-one, from Norris Green, paid the company a deposit of £325 in September for a £2,925 job laying new flagstones and replacing the overgrown lawn with astroturf in her back garden.

She said: "They kept saying they were coming out and they wouldn't turn up. He'd say he was sick or that it was raining or that he had more jobs on, that the customer before me was a nightmare, and they would reschedule for another week.

"Eventually I looked at the invoice and got a number for the boss who said he would sort it. This was towards the end of October, because we'd just had excuse after excuse. I wanted to know what was going on.

"I said if it's not getting done, we'll just have our deposit back."

After speaking with the company's boss, she said she was finally visited on October 26 by a group of men due to start work on the garden. She said: "They said their lawnmower needed a sparkplug and they'd be right back," she said. "They never came back that day.

"Then they were meant to come the next day, and I got a text saying they had a crash so they weren't coming back again."

In early November she claims she was visited again by a lone landscaper, who dug up the lawn in preparation for the astroturf. But Hayley said: "Since then, nobody else has been out.

"Even if they gave me my money back now, my garden is still a mess. I'm stressed to death. It's ridiculous. It's more than the money, and my garden is an absolute mess. It's just mud."

The ECHO understands the company refused to carry out the work until 'dog waste' had been cleared from the garden and that they had agreed to repay Hayley's deposit in full.
