Mum said she found mouldy walls and leftover food in 'filthy stinking' Pontins Brean Sands room

A mum has claimed she found mouldy walls and leftover food in her "stinking filthy" room at Pontins.

Patricia Coombes visited the Brean Sands holiday park with her family back in August.

But the 39-year-old said she and her partner, nine-year-old Chloe and 11-year-old niece Aaliyah ended up trying to avoid the place "the entire time they were there".

Patricia told Gloucestershire Live: "As soon as we went inside we and the other guests were all stood by the desk which we assumed was reception.

"But nobody came for us and there were no signs anywhere about where to check in.

"Finally someone came and told us to come through to another room and we were just pushed like cattle into this area."

When the Tewkesbury mum saw her room, she said she was horrified.

She continued: "The room completely stank."

"It wasn't clean - there was leftover food in the drawers, with mould on some of the walls and in the corners of the doors.

'It was filthy'

"It was horrible, and because there was no restaurant in the place and it was self-catering I didn't want to make any food in the room because it was filthy.

"But we just decided that since we travelled for three hours from Tewkesbury, we should just make the most of it."

The mum said she bought cleaning products at a local shop and attempted to clean the room herself.

Suffering from Rheumatoid Arthritis, Patricia says she finds it difficult to walk long distances.

But she claims when the family asked if they could have a room closer to the car park for this reason, their request was denied.

She said: "At the start you're told if you have any issues or complaints that you have to go to a completely different building far away.

"But when we went to the building and saw a man go inside, we knocked on the door but there was no answer."

Patricia says her and the family decided to spend "as little time as possible" in the chalet but said even the swimming pool at the resort was "disgusting."

'I was absolutely appalled'

Guests at Pontins are required to dispose of their waste by using their room's bin bag and taking it to a larger bin at the end of the floor's hallway.

But Patricia claims she didn't have a bin bag and she was shouted at when asked for one.

According to Patricia the passing cleaner "was so rude and shouted and swore at me in front of my nine year old daughter, saying that she 'wasn't getting that effing rubbish in that tiny effing bag' - I was absolutely appalled.

"My partner was furious."

All in all, Patricia says the experience would not have left her so angry if they had received an apology from Pontins.

But she said: "When we eventually filed our complaint the manager didn't even apologise, the staff were so rude."

Pontins' response

A spokesperson for Pontins said: “We are disappointed to hear of Mrs Coombes experience at our Brean Sands site and urge her to contact our Guest Solutions department to discuss this further.”
