Mum's genius hack to making sure kids' school shoes fit without bringing them shopping

After a long summer holiday, there’s still one thing parents are putting off - buying school shoes.

Shopping with the kids around is tough enough, but trying to convince them to try on the thick-soled, sturdy pair of leather shoes that will last longer than a few months - instead of the "cool" pair - is much harder.

But now, you can avoid all of those in-store tantrums with this one incredibly simple hack, reports the Daily Star .

Find out which of your local restaurants are taking part in the Eat Out to Help Out scheme:

A savvy mum explained that she uses cardboard cutouts of her children's feet and takes them along with her when she goes shopping.

The mum-of-two took to an Australian Facebook group to share her helpful tip, and unsurprisingly it impressed many.

She wrote: "When your kids have had a growth spurt and need new shoes but you don't want to take them into the shops just yet."

The mum makes cutouts of her kid's feet to make sure she picks the right size (Facebook)

She has her children step onto a piece of cardboard before using a pen to outline the shape of their feet.

After cutting them out, she's ready to shop in peace.

Since sharing the hack, it has received thousands of likes from fellow parents, with many admitting to using the same trick.

Another added: "My mum used to do this to us using Manila folders, I thought she was nuts."

A third said: "I did this when I had to buy shoes for three boys who weren't easy to take shopping."
