Mum's funeral request as girl who died in Carr Mill Dam laid to rest

Funeral details have been released for a schoolgirl who died while swimming with friends in Carr Mill Dam.

Teenager Erin died after getting into difficulty in water on Thursday, June 1. Officers entered the water in a bid to find the 15-year-old but despite the best efforts, the teenager died.

Sharing the details, Erin's mum Kirsty Madden asked if everyone attending can wear her favourite colour, blue, and to stray away from "traditional funeral" clothes. Instead she hopes that people will turn up and be "bright and comfortable."

Erin's funeral will take place on Saturday, June 10, at St Helens Crematorium and then Blackbrook Rugby Club.

Releasing the details on Facebook, she said: "For family, friends and those that would like to pay their respects. Erin's funeral will take place at 11am on Saturday 10th June at St Helens crem. Please be mindful that there is only so much room in the crem and we would ask that this be reserved for family, closest friends, JCs boxing club and teachers.

"For anyone that would like to celebrate Erin's life with the family, we will be heading to Blackbrook Rugby Club after the service." She added: "For people wanting to pay respects that we do not know personally, please accept our thanks in advance. We really appreciate all of the support and help throughout this difficult time. Let me give my beautiful baby the send off she deserves."

A GoFundMe page was also set up in memory of Erin and to help her family. The page shared pictures of Erin and was set up by Toni Ward, who posted that she was a friend of the family and described Erin as "a beautiful soul."

She said: "My friend and her family lost their beautiful daughter, granddaughter, sister and friend due to a tragic accident that should never have happened. She had the rest of her life to look forward to she was a beautiful soul inside and out she be gone but never forgotten." The fundraising page's original target was £3,000, but it has now reached £5,253 as of today, on Thursday, June 6.
