Mum praised for secretly giving her cheating son's dog back to his ex-wife

Many parents will turn an blind eye to their children's flaws, especially when they are grown-up adults themselves. But one mum has taken matters into her own hands after her adult son cheated on his ex-wife with his co-worker. She chose to hit him where it hurts most - by giving away his beloved pet dog.

The woman has been applauded by people online for taking her son's border collie to his ex-wife and children's house while he was working abroad. In her post on Reddit, she began by stating: "I love my son with all my heart. But he blew up his marriage by cheating and has moved back home."

The mum described her 25-year-old son, named Carlos, as a "handful", and explained that he got married at the age of 20.

"His ex-wife had a three-year-old daughter whom I love and no matter what I am her grandmother. They had a child together, my other grandchild. He is two," she explained.

Carlos, who works away a lot, had an affair while he was working away and made the decision to move back in with his mum.

She continued: "It doesn't really make sense for him to rent an apartment or something for the 12 days a month he is home. So I allowed it. But he decided to be an a**, in my opinion, and bring his dog with him.

"My grandbabies love this dog. But he is trying to punish his ex for telling him to leave.

"It is a beautiful border collie and it is the perfect dog for their home. Huge yard, lots of walking trails nearby, even an off leash park only a 10 minute drive away.

"I live in an apartment downtown. I am allowed a dog but if I were to have one it would be something sedate and non-shedding like a Maltese."

The woman explained that her "irresponsible" son neglected the dog and held onto it just to "lever his way into his ex's life".

So, while he was working away again, she called her daughter-in-law and checked if they would like the dog back.

"She almost cried with joy," the mum said. "[I] packed up everything that belonged to the dog and took him over there. My grandchildren were ecstatic."

But when her son returned home, he confronted her and she had to tell him the truth.

"He is calling me an a**hole for giving away his pet. Also because I said that if he tried to go get the dog and bring it back he was not welcome in my home," the mum added.

Reddit users applauded the mum for returning the dog to its family, with the post racking up more than 19,000 upvotes and 1,500 comments.

One person said: "He's only thinking of himself. Not you, not the dog, and not his kids. Also, calling you an a**hole? You're nice to let him back into your home at all after that."

Another agreed: "I'm not generally supportive of unilaterally giving away someone's pet, but I think it was entirely justified in this case.

"He was intentionally making you, the dog, and his own children upset, just to get back at his wife for not putting up with his cheating. Good job, Grandma!"

A third wrote: "You rock grandma. Reading your post gave a happy tears because you know and love your son but you are not blinded by his mistakes. I love how you still a good mother-in-law to the ex-wife."
