Mum parenting 'outside the box' says her kids won't swim, wear shoes or use high chairs

A mum who "parents outside the box" has revealed her children will never have swimming lessons, wear shoes or use high chairs.

The Australian parent, who goes by the name of @Captain_Tucker on TikTok, has gone viral after she shared her eight "controversial ways I insist on raising my toddler."

The mum, who works in the fishing industry, uploaded the controversial video with the caption: "None of these decisions have been taken lightly."

And despite living near the sea, the TikTok user claims her child will never have swimming lessons.

Her baby is also not allowed to sit on a high chair as she won't permit them.

For most parents, arranging playtime for her child is essential but the mum claims it's not allowed as she doesn't entertain them.

Another rules she insisted on is no pram for her kid - unless she's carrying shopping or toys.

The Aussie then posted a follow-up to the clip with a further four rules.

She insisted no day-care for their children with the mum believing the children come to work with her - or they don't go to work.

The most disputed idea which entertained the most questions was the no shoes rule.

Her children don't wear shoes unless they ask or if the weather is too cold.

One parent was concerned she wouldn't put shoes on her child unless they asked and commented: "So you'll be fine if they step on glass or needles?"

And another user enquired: "Why no shoes?"

The mum replied "Shoes aren't actually good for us, like walking on flat surfaces isn't good for us.

"Yes it's convenient, but it won't help build strong muscles/joints."

Additionally, she does not believe in colours for her son and daughter - if her boy wishes to wear pink and her girl wants to wear blue, she will allow them to.

Her views were both positively and negatively received online - as the mum explained her thoughts behind the rules and engaged with users.

Asked why she wouldn't entertain swimming lessons for her children when she lives near the sea, she said: "Water safety is polar opposite to swimming."

A TikTok user felt rather sorry for her children with the parenting rules as they wrote: "Which country are you in? Need to call its child protection services."

Following the extreme reaction, the mum said her rules made "plenty of sense, it's just not the lifestyle for you."
