Mum of four with 'biggest smile' dies two days after devastating diagnosis

A much-loved mum-of-four who had the "kindest heart" died just two days after being given a devastating cancer diagnosis. Janice Cassidy Adair went to her doctor and had blood tests after feeling unwell for several weeks.

Nail Technician Janice who has three sons Iain, 22, Logan, 11, and Kian, seven, and a daughter, Laura, 19, was then told she had bone and liver cancer.

Her condition deteriorated and just two days later, the 46-year-old died in hospital.

Janice, from Scotland, had only recently found out she was going to be a grandparent for the first time following the news that daughter Laura Kirk was expecting.

"For the last couple of weeks she had not been well but she went and got bloods done and the doctors thought it might have been jaundice," Laura told Glasgow Live.

"However, last Monday the doctors said it didn't look too good and they suspected it was cancer so on Tuesday they did a scan which confirmed Mum had liver and bone cancer.

"They couldn't give her the MRI scan because she actually was struggling to stay awake and answer questions, she was not compos mentis. The doctors said they couldn't do anymore and she passed away in hospital that night.

"I had gone to see her and I know her so I could tell she was sugar-coating something but then the doctor spoke to me and I was taken aback. My mum just accepted it, we knew she wasn't well and was in pain but we never thought it was cancer.

"She was well known and much-loved, she was bubbly and happy, she didn't take any nonsense but she was a good woman."

Laura Kirk also posted a tribute to her mum, from Coatbridge in North Lanarkshire, on Facebook last Thursday, writing: "So as some of you already know our beautiful mum fell asleep last night after unfortunately losing her battle to cancer.

"It all happened too fast but I'm so glad I got to spend my time with you. Thank you for everything you have done for me in my lifetime, I'm so grateful.

"You are at peace now and out of all pain and now resting, we all love you so much mum and you are truly missed so much already, sleep tight mama you are so loved."

In a separate post on Tuesday Laura wrote: "My whole world and more, I miss and love you with all my heart mum. I'm lost without you here with us, my forever best friend."

Janice's son Iain Kirk wrote: "She was a bright star for us and now she can be the brightest star in the sky to shine upon us all."

Family friend Kimberly Hillan set up a GoFundMe page last week to help the family with any future costs. "As close family and friends already know Janice passed away on Wednesday 31st of August," she said.

"Janice suffered a great deal of pain over a period of time and sadly found out two days prior to gaining her wings that unfortunately, she had cancer. Janice will be sorely missed and never forgotten.

"Janice sadly left behind her four beautiful children Iain, Laura, Logan, Kian, and also her unborn grandson. Please keep them in your prayers as they mourn the loss of their mum and send loving thoughts to the rest of the family.

"The Janice I knew, as everyone would probably agree, you heard her before you saw her and she had the biggest smile and kindest heart.

"She would go out of her way and beyond to help everyone. She had the most infectious laugh and always saw the best in people, rest in peace. GBNF. Fly high my angel I love you and I always will."
