Mum-of-five 'disgusted' after being without hot water for days

A mum-of-five has been without hot water for days after her boiler unexpectedly broke.

Fatuma Farahani noticed a leak from her boiler in her Toxteth home on Wednesday, January 26 and immediately called Sanctuary Housing for support.

When assessed later that afternoon, she was told the heating could remain on, but that she would be without hot water until they ordered a specific part.

But Fatuma told the ECHO that she was told on Friday morning the part has been delivered, but cannot be replaced until Monday - leaving her without hot water for a further three days.

She said: "This is my third day without hot water and now I have to wait even longer. They told me they have had the part delivered but there are no appointments until Monday, that's the only time they can fit me in.

"It's completely unacceptable. I have five kids, three of them are under 10 and I have two older boys and none of us have been able to get a bath or a shower.

"I'm just really annoyed. They have the part there but they have no appointments to come out and fix it, what are we meant to do in the meantime?

"I can't even wash the dishes. It's very frustrating and my kids are understandably sad and angry.

"My youngest girl is seven and she's autistic. She loves her baths and she hasn't been able to have one. They aren't coping well with it.

"Wednesday to Monday is a long time to wait, especially if the part is actually there. It's absolutely disgusting we've just been left to deal with this.

"It's just not acceptable."

Fatuma also said she is without a light in the kitchen due to problems with the light bulb and is unable to fix it herself.

A spokesperson for Sanctuary said: "We quickly attended this property when the issue was reported and ensured the family have heating while repairs are being completed.

"An appointment has been arranged for tomorrow morning (Saturday 29 January) to carry out the work to restore the hot water."
