Mum of boy found dead in lagoon 'keeps expecting him to come home to cuddle her'

The heartbroken mother of a toddler found dead in a lagoon in Australia's crocodile country says she keeps expecting him to walk through the door and give her a cuddle.

Two-year-old Ruben Scott was found dead three days after he vanished on a sprawling cattle farm in remote Queensland.

There were fears Ruben had been snatched by a crocodile before police divers found his body 100 metres (328ft) from his family's home in Koolatah Station on Friday.

His grief-stricken mum Natasha Scott wrote on Facebook: "Ever since you left me it feels like you're going to walk back through my door, yell out 'mum ma' and give me a big cuddle."

She added: "I had you when I was just 16, we did it incredibly hard but eventually got on our little feet.

"You used to laugh and smile when I played back the videos I recorded of you and now all I do is cry because I know you're never coming back to me."

Ms Scott last saw her son just before 5.45pm last Tuesday.

After he was reported missing a massive search took place by land, water and air.

Ms Scott had earlier shared her two final photographs of her son on Facebook, writing: "These are the very last photos and memories I'll ever have of you my son.

"I love you so incredibly much and I'll always have you in my heart."

She added: "I hope you'll be watching over me up there. I'll forever need your guidance. Fly high my son, I love you to the moon and back. I wish I could've outlived you. You'll be my forever and always."

The family had been fearing the worst as the days passed, and police had told reporters Ruben likely hadn't survived being outdoors for so long.

Teams searched for the boy on foot, horseback and motorbike, and used heat-seeking drones.
