We’ve all made blunders before where we’ve meant one thing and said another, but probably not one quite as funny as this.
A woman took to Mumsnet to ask other users whether their husband is as stupid as hers after a horrendously awkward encounter with his work colleagues who had made some incorrect assumptions about her…because of him.
It turns out that he’d told his colleagues that she did a completely different job to the one she actually does.
Rather than saying his wife is a sexual health advisor, he wrongly told them that she is a ‘sex worker’, which made them behave a little bit awkwardly around her.
She wrote: “I went out for dinner last night with a bunch of my husband's work colleagues who I’ve not met before. We all got on great but I could tell there was a weird vibe between me and them.
“Do you want to know why?
“My job is a sexual health advisor.

“Turns out when asked what I do he’s been telling people I’m a sex worker.
“He actually thought that’s what sex worker meant. Thankfully I’ve put everyone straight and the weird tension eased. But omg what a bloody idiot.
“Am I being unreasonable to think he wins the stupid man award?”
After everyone had gathered themselves after laughing, they responded to let the original poster know how hilarious the situation was, even if she didn’t see the funny side.
“Omg that is a hilarious mistake”, one wrote.
“Oh OP, that wasn't what I expected”, another wrote, followed by a tonne of crying with laughter emojis. “ I'm sorry, I hope the night was much easier after you set them straight! If it helps, my husband couldn't even tell you what I do for a job”, she finished.
Others posted similar mix-ups which had happened to them.
One said: “This reminds me of a friend who's little brother told their teacher that their dad was an arms dealer. He sold mechanical arms for factory machinery.”
Another reminisced: “My son told his entire school at assembly that I make adult movies. I'm a boring marketing manager who sometimes makes boring videos. That was fun.”
Another mum joked: “My son when young told his class teacher his grandad made drugs. He worked in medical research…”
The original poster then explained: “One of them had mentioned that their daughter was starting to ask questions about sex, and they were unsure how to approach it.
““Oh, ask Mrs Stupid, she’s a sex worker” says Mr Stupid.
““Wtf did you just say?!”
“Cue all the awkward faces then the laughing then the blushing of Mr Stupid as I explained my ACTUAL job and why he’s an idiot and should never speak to anyone again.”
It might’ve mortified her, but it sure did have us laughing.
