Mum got married in just 20 minutes so she could dash to hospital for birth of grandson

A mum got married in just 20 minutes so she could dash back to hospital - for the birth of her grandson. Jenna Robinson, 38, tied the knot on February 22 - the day daughter Elise Claire, 18, had baby boy Addison.

And it turned out that the boy was delivered at the exact time the grandmother signed her wedding certificate - making it a memorable day for the family. Jenna, from Pinchbeck, near Spalding, Lincolnshire, said: "I thought it’ll be fine, it’s not going to happen at the same time. I'd had the wedding planned for ages.

"When she went into labour the night before we thought, ‘Great, she’ll be in and out'. When we got back it turned out that the time we signed the document was exactly the same as she had given birth."

Elise went into labour a week before her due date - on the night before her mum's wedding. Jenna, a receptionist, was desperate to be there for the birth but didn't want to miss her wedding to mechanic Paul Robinson, 43.

They tied the knot at Spalding Registry Office, with Jenna spending just 20 minutes at her own wedding. It was another 20-minute drive back to the hospital for the grandmother, who was gutted to discover she'd missed the whole birth when she got back to Pilgrim Hospital, Boston.

But she now says it was "amazing" and "wonderful" to meet her grandson after her wedding. Jenna said: "Elise's due date was the 27th to 28th of February, and she started having contractions on the 21st.

"She was having contractions which went on all night. It was my wedding day the next day so I had to go home quickly that night to get all my stuff together.

“The next morning, she was still in labour while I was trying to get ready for the wedding. I decided I was going to get married and get straight back – I would go for my wedding and then come back straight after.

“I legged it on the bypass all the way to the registry office and quickly got married – I was in and out in twenty minutes. My poor husband was in tears waiting to see if I turned up.

“It was touch and go whether I’d make it to the wedding but I got there just in time, I was only three minutes late, before I left him at the alter again and rushed off. I got all the way back and discovered she’d already given birth, I missed the whole thing.

“I was just so rushed – I wanted to get back to see her give birth, I always wanted to be there with her and that was always the plan. He was a little boy named Addison, it felt really good and amazing to meet him, it was wonderful.”
