A mum has been left furious at the name her mother-in-law wants her grandchildren to call them. The woman fears that the name is too similar to one her children call her, which is 'Mama'.
She took to social media to vent her frustration over the situation with her husband's mother wanting to be called 'Mimi'. Posting on Reddit, the woman explained that the pair have a history of bad blood.
The mum said: "Mother-in-law wants to be called Mimi by her grandkids. Thoughts?
"Is this too close to mama and should I be worried? My mother-in-law and I have had issues in the past (with her being overbearing and visiting without being invited etc) but we have overcome a lot and now have a very great relationship.
"I'm just curious about the term Mimi as I haven’t heard it before." The mum's moniker mayhem was quick to stir up conversation on social media, with people keen to give their thoughts.

Many people say that Mimi is a common nickname among grandparents, along with other ones like Me-Maw. One person said: "Very common grandmother nickname. As are Mam-Maw, Me-Maw, and Momo.
"None of them sound even remotely like Momma/Mama." Another agreed stating: "Mimi is the new grandma.
"Every new grandma I know is called “Mimi”. My godchildren all call me Mimi."
A third user said: "You might be a little over sensitive due to your past with your mother-in-law, but Mimi is a great name and not close to mama at all, really. She sounds like she is staying in her lane.
"It was nice to read the two of you have sorted out the relationship." Meanwhile, others suggested that if the name bothers the mother because it's too similar to Mama, she could always add the grandmother's first name to it.
One person said: "If Mimi bothers you, add her first name. For example, Mimi Bev."
