Mum fatally guns down two policemen in front of daughter, 8, before being shot dead

A mum has shot and killed two police officers in front of her eight-year-old daughter.

Mum Amy Brogdon Anderson died at the scene after being struck by a bullet fired by one of the officers, authorities have revealed.

The two officers killed have been named as Branden Estorffe and Sgt. Steven Robin.

The two were responding to a 911 call made at the request of Anderson, who police say thought she was being followed and "showing some signs of mental health issues".

The incident happened at Motel 6, Bay St. Louis, Mississippi, US, on Wednesday December 14.

Anderson had checked into the motel in the early hours of the morning and asked the staff working to call 911 an hour later.

The two officers arrived to find Anderson packing her belongings from her room into her SUV outside.

They spoke with her and her young daughter for around 30 minutes which was captured on the officers' bodycams.

During that time a white truck drove past that Anderson thought was following her just Robin ran a background check on the vehicle but nothing untoward was found.

Both officers became more and more concerned for the eight-year-old girl's safety and so Estorffe stepped away to call Child Protective Services. Anderson was in the SUV at the time.

According Public Safety Commissioner Sean Tindell described the footage captured, telling WLBT : “It was about that time that you heard a commotion and when he came around the corner Officer Robin had been shot in the head and rather instantaneously he drew his weapon was able to get two rounds off. She got two rounds off striking Officer Estorffe but he managed to shoot her in the chest.

“Both of them received fatal wounds in that split second.”

Robin and Anderson died at the scene, but Estorffe was pronounced dead at a nearby hospital.

Investigations are ongoing to understand what led to Anderson’s distress. Tindell said: “Amy thought that she was being followed and clearly was showing some signs of mental health issues."

The only witness is Anderson's traumatised 8-year-old girl.

“I don’t know what she saw,” said Tindell, “but she was there.”

It was originally believed that Anderson took her own life after shooting the officers but investigators worked out she died after being struck by a bullet fired by Officer Estorffe.

According to her Facebook, Anderson was working as an emergency veterinarian at the 24-hour animal hospital MedVet Mobile focusing on small animals.
