Multiple drivers arrested for positive drug and alcohol tests on Dublin roads

Multiple drivers have been arrested across Dublin for positive drug and alcohol tests in checkpoints carried out by gardai.

Among them were five arrests made as part of a checkpoint in Coolock on Saturday night as part of Operation Surround.

Of the 105 people tested, four were found to be positive for drugs and another person for alcohol.

Gardai said: "Operation Surround’ - Roads Policing Units carried out a series of Mandatory Intoxicant Testing checkpoints in Coolock last night. 105 motorists were tested, resulting in 4 arrests for positive drug tests and 1 for a positive alcohol test."

While in Swords, a driver was found to be multiple times over the limit when they were caught drink driving.

They said: "D.M.R. (North) Roads Policing Unit arrested a motorist on the Swords Road for Drink Driving. Multiple times over the legal limit."

And gardai on patrol in Dun Laoghaire arrested a driver for drug driving - they later tested positive for cannabis.

Gardai said: "Following an activation by Garda mobility technology a car was stopped by Gardaí from Dun Laoghaire while on patrol.

"The driver was subsequently arrested for drug driving and provided a positive test result for cannabis at station. Court proceedings to follow."
