Multiple crews called to roof fire near M5 south of Bristol

Fire crews have been tackling a house fire since the early hours of this morning (Sunday) on country road that runs parallel to the M5 motorway.

Avon Fire and Rescue Service said they were called to reports of smoke coming from the roof of a bungalow in Clevedon Lane in Clapton-in-Gordano, just south of Bristol, around 4.30am.

A crew from Portishead and Clevedon originally attended the scene.

But according to the fire service, upon arrival it became clear that there was a “well developed fire in the roof”.

A spokesperson said: “Additional resources were called to the scene and in total there were five pumping appliances in attendance.”

A welfare crew and Red Cross victim support were also called to the scene.

What to do in a fire

No one was injured as a result of the blaze.

The cause of the fire is still unknown.

Crews were expected to remain  on scene dealing with the fire until at least 8am this morning.
