Multiple armed garda units involved as man arrested in Ireland over threat to kill female British MP

A 41-year-old man in Cork has been arrested by Gardai for threatening to kill a female British MP.

It is understood that up to 15 members of the Cork Armed Support Unit were involved in the arrest this morning at a rented apartment in Douglas under a search warrant.

The Irish Times are reporting that British police alerted Gardai to the suspect after a person phoned an MP and threatened to kill her on October 18th.

The man has been taken to the Bridewell Garda Station to be questioned where he is being detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, under which he can be held for up to 24 hours.

A Garda spokesperson said: "Gardaí in Douglas executed a search warrant this morning, Saturday 6th November, 2021 at a residential property in Douglas, Cork.

"During the course of the search a number of electronic items were seized and one man (41 years) was arrested on suspicious of making threats to a person outside of this jurisdiction.

"He is currently detained under Section 4 Criminal Justice Act, 1984 at the Bridewell Garda Station."
