MSU Cancels Men’s Basketball Game in Wake of Campus Shootings

Editor’s note: This story contains details of gun violence.

After on-campus shootings on Monday night saw three confirmed fatalities and multiple others wounded, Michigan State has canceled all campus activities for the next two days, including the men’s basketball team’s home game against Minnesota. No further details on if or when the game would be rescheduled were revealed.

In an alert sent shortly after 8:30 p.m., campus police reported a “shots fired incident occurring on or near the East Lansing campus.” The alert advised students and staff to “Secure-in-Place immediately” and to monitor alert.msu.edu for information.

The police said later Monday night via Twitter that the suspect was located off campus and appeared to have died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The shelter-in-place order was lifted shortly before 12:30 a.m.

Police announced that five wounded victims had been transported to a local hospital.
