Mrs Hinch fans share peppermint trick costing 3p to keep spiders at bay

Fans of famous cleaner and social media influencer Mrs Hinch have shared an effective tip that helps prevent spiders from entering your home. Spider mating season is now upon us, meaning Brits are more likely to see the creepy crawlies in their homes from now until mid-October.

After September and October, spiders are less likely to be spotted indoors. A large number of Britons are scared of the arachnids, despite the fact they pose no harm to humans.

For those finding the spider invasion too much, fans of cleaning sensation Mrs Hinch have shared their natural deterrents for ousting the bugs, reports the Express. Mrs Hinch, whose full name is Sophie Hinchliffe, is a cleaning expert and lifestyle influencer with more than 4.5 million followers on Instagram.

“I keep putting them far away outside but every day there is another one. Help. How do I get rid of them?” The post received more than 130 comments from Mrs Hinch fans, however, the most suggested solution was to use peppermint either in oil or tea form.

Kirsty Davidson said to use "peppermint oil". Janine Paga agreed and wrote: "The spiders are coming in from outside, they will keep coming back in to find a mate, which, sorry to say will be tucked away in your house somewhere! "Diluted peppermint essential oil and water sprayed around the house helps!"

Caroline Jones commented: "I bought some peppermint tea, made and cooked in a spray bottle, so far so good, did door frames and windows inside and out! "I top up once a week due to cleaning! It cost me £0.62 for a box of 20!"

Allison Gibb Annand replied: "Buy a bottle of peppermint oil. Put a teaspoon full into a spray bottle of water and shake to mix. Spray round door and window frames. They won't come in past it." Emma Matthews agreed and said: "Peppermint oil they don't like it. I spray around doors and windows."

Tisserand Peppermint Essential Oil Organic costs £1.49 from Waitrose. Calmer Solutions Peppermint Essential 100% Aromatherapy Oil is £1.98 from Amazon.

Other suggestions for deterring spiders from Mrs Hinch fans included using conkers, Indorex spray, vinegar and lemon juice. Jessica Godsmark said: "Apparently, fresh lemon juice works. Never tried it myself yet but will give it a go."

Hayley Foleher replied: "Conkers are supposed to keep them out. Just get a few and put them in corners of rooms and behind things." Shaz Taylor Morgan commented: "Spray vinegar or lemon juice around entrances, works for me, they don't like acidy smells!"

Kelcy Bennett said: "Indorex spray around all the openings where they could come in. Honestly, I know it’s flea spray but it does the trick thank goodness."
