Moussa Dembele 'anonymous' as Celtic hero misses chance to prove blunt Lyon chief wrong

Lyon striker Moussa Dembele endured a frustrating night as he failed to make club president Jean-Michel Aulas have a rethink over recent comments.

Rudi Garcia's side have stuttered in the opening weeks of the season as they continue to suffer from a hangover after their Champions League heroics as they had to settle for a drab 0-0 draw with Nimes.

And Dembele's performance was described as 'anonymous' by broadcaster Tom Williams as doubts remains over his long-term future with the Ligue 1 side.

The 24-year-old will have been disappointed with his display hours after Aulas delivered a body blow to the Celtic hero and fellow strike partner Memphis Depay.

Both are wanted by other clubs but it appears midfield standout Houssem Aouar is regarded as Lyon's most prized asset as Arsenal continue to show an interest in the £60m-rated schemer.

When asked if the Gunners would sign him, Aulas responded: "No I don't think so.

"No offer yet, it seems that Arsenal don't want to, or can't invest the price for Houssem, who is our best player."

There still remains interest in Dembele with RB Leipzig closely monitoring his future but he will desperate to quickly recover the form that dumped Manchester City out of the Champions League.

And so will Celtic as the Premiership champions retain a 10 per cent sell-on fee for a player who has been watched extensively by the likes of Manchester United and Tottenham in recent months.
