Mountain Warehouse in Bristol city centre is closing down

A shop selling outdoor clothing and equipment in Bristol city centre is closing down.

Mountain Warehouse was founded in 1997 by Mark Neale and has since grown from a single outlet to more than 330 stores across Europe, New Zealand and North America.

Its stores sell clothing and equipment catered towards a number of outdoor activities including hiking, camping, skiing, cycling, running and fitness.

But Broadmead shop now has a 'closing down' sign in the window. Bristol Live has contacted the retailer's head office for a comment on the impending closure.

A member of staff in store said they are not sure when the closure will take place when asked by a Bristol Live reporter on Monday, January 13.

Retail Week reported the retailer has slowed domestic growth in favour of international development in North America and Germany, as well as partnering with Alibaba to enter the Chinese market.

The retailer opened its first North America outlet store in Toronto, Canada early 2014 and has since further expanded to other North American locations including New Jersey and Vancouver.

The closure follows the departure of Regatta, another renowned outdoor apparel store in Broadmead which closed at the end of 2019.

A spokesperson for Broadmead Business Improvement District (BID), the organisation which oversees retail in Bristol city centre, said they have nothing to add.
