Motorists take shelter from showers under flyovers, roads choke in Noida

NOIDA: Rains lashed Noida on Friday and brought relief to residents from the heat and humidity but also slowed down the traffic movement at several places.

Ashutosh Singh, Noida traffic inspector, said it rained briefly at 4 pm and then for an hour between 7pm and 8 pm. “During the rains, several motorcycle riders took shelter under the Mahamaya and Film City flyovers and the Sector 60 underpass, which slowed traffic movement. When the rain stopped, the roads cleared,” he said.

He added that there was also slow traffic movement at Kalindi Kunj due to the rains. The traffic police have already blocked one carriageway from the Delhi-Noida side to facilitate safe passage for the Kanwar pilgrims. The other carriageway faced high traffic pressure on Friday.

The Met department recorded 3.9 mm rainfall over nine hours on Friday, ending at 5:30 pm. The evening rain data was not available.

The maximum temperature was 35.6 degrees and the minimum temperature was 30 degrees on Friday. The IMD has predicted cloudy skies, with a possibility of light rain and thunderstorm over the next week.

Several parts of Delhi also received rain on Friday. Safdarjung recorded 7.5mm rainfall between 8.30am and 8.30 pm. Palam saw only 1.2mm rainfall during the same period. Some parts of north Delhi received moderate rain. The maximum temperature was recorded at 33.9 degrees Celsius, one degree below normal, on Friday. The minimum temperature settled at 27 degrees.
