A motorcyclist has been left seriously injured after a rush hour collision on a busy east London road on Wednesday morning.

Police were called to reports of a collision between a motorbike and car at 7.45am on Wapping’s The Highway, at the junction with Glamis Rd.

Local officers said they were dealing with a “serious personal injury accident”, requiring them to put a crime scene in place to restrict traffic in both directions.

The injured motorcyclist was treated for leg and chest injuries and has been rushed to a major trauma centre, said the London Ambulance Service.

Motorists were advised to avoid the area on Wednesday morning as road closures were in place.

A London Ambulance Service spokesperson told the Standard they were called out shortly after 7.40am to the incident.

“We sent an ambulance crew, a paramedic in a fast response car and an incident response officer. The first of our medics arrived in under three minutes,” said the spokesperson.
