Motorcyclist killed after collision with van in south London

A motorcyclist was killed in a collision with a van on a south London road on Wednesday morning.

Paramedics battled to save the motorcyclist for 45 minutes but he died at the scene in Rochester Way, Eltham about 7.45am.

Scotland Yard said his next of kin have been informed.

A Met spokesman said the driver of the van stopped at the scene and is assisting officers with their enquiries.

He added: “The road is expected to remain closed for some time and motorists should seek alternative routes.”

A London Ambulance Service spokesperson said: “We were called today (Wednesday March 2) at 6.35am to reports of a road traffic accident in Rochester Way, SE9.

“We sent a number of resources including a team leader, an ambulance, a medic in a response car and London’s Air Ambulance.

“Sadly, despite our efforts a man died at the scene.”
