Motorcyclist drunk and on drugs when he ploughed bike into Oldham Road barrier - killing him and pal

Two young men died in a crash while the driver was impaired by drink and drugs, an inquest heard.

Manchester Coroners Court heard how the motorbike collision happened at 5.05am on Sunday July 25, last year on Oldham Road in Manchester.

Driver Jordan Slack, 28, and passenger Ben Martin Gallagher, 20, both died at the scene.

Coroner Zak Golombeck said: "The motorcycle approached the Gateway, which is a four lane carriageway, and travelled in the right turn lane.

"However the motorcycle travelled straight and collided with a metal barrier protecting a pedestrian island.

"The motorcycle travelled through the barrier and dismounted the pair."

Mr Golombeck told the court: "First aid was given to Mr Gallagher but sadly he died at the scene.

He said Mr Slack was "driving above the national speed limit for Oldham Road and was impaired due to drugs and alcohol in his system.

"He was unfamiliar with the road layout."

He told the court a post-mortem examination carried out by Dr Armani Brown had concluded both men had died of a traumatic head injury.

Mr Golombeck said: "Members of Ben's family who are present, I would like to express my sincerest condolences."

In the absence of Jordan's family being present, Mr Golombeck still extended his condolences, saying "I want to express my condolences to the family of Jordan Slack as well."

He concluded both men had died as the result of a road traffic collision.
