Motorcyclist dies following collision with cyclist on Old Navan Road, Mulhuddart

A motor cyclist has died following a collision with a cyclist on the Old Navan Road in Mulhuddart this evening.

The west Dublin road was closed shortly after 7:30pm this evening as emergency services raced to the scene.

A section of the road between Coolmine Cottages and Saddlers Estate was closed for a number of hours while Gardai and Dublin Fire Brigade dealt with the incident.

A garda spokesman later confirmed that the 45-year-old motorcyclist died following the collision.

He said: "Gardaí attended the scene of a fatal RTC that occurred today, Wednesday 4 September 2019 at Saddlers Avenue, Mulhuddart, at approximately 7:30pm, involving a motorcycle and cyclist.

"The male motor cyclist (45 years) was fatally injured and his body has been removed to James Connolly Memorial Hospital where a post mortem will take place."

Gardai remain at the scene this evening and the road is currently closed with local diversions in place.
